Recycling Programme Planning and Implementation

MAR RecyclingRecycling offers financial benefits to you and reduces your business’s impact on the environment. Once a system has been devised and set up it’s just as easy to manage as traditional methods of waste disposal.
Standard recyclables are the everyday items you would expect to find in any office waste bin which can be recycled. They include:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Magazines
  • Plastic bottles
  • Glass
  • Steel
  • Aluminium cans

The way you dispose of your standard recyclables depends on your objectives and on the services locally available.

Waste and Recycling (3).jpg 500x352Mixed Recyclables  You might want to want to adopt an approach that simply separates your recyclable waste from general waste,  keeping effort to a minimum. The answer is our mixed recyclables . With this, general waste bins are removed and replaced with strategically placed pairs of bins, one for mixed recyclables and one for everything else. This scheme is relatively easy to implement and involves a single collection for all recyclables.

Separate Waste Streams You might prefer to recycle as more in separate streams, in order to be as environmentally friendly as possible and to maximise cost savings, since many separate waste stream collections can either be cost-neutral or actually generate a rebate. The downside of this approach is that you need to have different bins and collections for each separate stream. Also, there will be costs associated with setting up and running the separate waste streams: the cost of the bins and the cost of collecting the waste.

Mid-way Scheme You might want to adopt a mid-way scheme, for example, having separate glass collections and combined collections for other recyclables.

Designing your Programme There are several key steps in designing a successful and effective recycling programme.

  • Firstly, we will conduct a waste audit to understand your waste streams and look at ways to reduce waste.
  • We will make recommendations to you about what waste materials can be recycled and how,  consider the volume, transportation, storage capacity and ability to separate materials, taking into account your budgetary constraints and any likely rebates.
  • Once agreed we will construct a convenient collection system, taking into consideration the space available, the layout of your premises and any constraints. It is key to run awareness programmes with your employees and other stakeholders to get their buy in to achieve adherence to the new ways of working.
  • We can suggest ways of introducing your new programmes and innovative awareness campaigns and promoting its benefits to your employees.
  • Finally, we ensure there are efficient monitoring systems in place to benchmark and monitor performance and identify opportunities to improve the procedures and processes.

We have the expertise to manage the transition to sound environmental practices that will benefit your organisation, your local community and the environment.
