Hazardous Waste

MAR Recycling Hazardous wasteHazardous waste contains substances, which may be harmful to human health or to the environment. It includes such items as:

  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Printer cartridges
  • Paint
  • Batteries

Hazardous Waste legislation aims to reduce the amount produced and ensure that it is disposed of in such a way as to minimise the risk to human health and the environment. The obligations placed on companies that produce hazardous waste are more stringent for those than for those companies that merely dispose of items they use. It is illegal to include such hazardous waste in the general waste collection, because general waste goes to landfill or incineration and the toxic substances in hazardous waste could have harmful effects if disposed in this way.
